Viola Davis is an American actress and producer, celebrated as one of the most decorated performers in the history of Hollywood. She was born in St. Matthews, South Carolina, on August 11, 1965, and grew up in extreme poverty in Central Falls, Rhode Island. Despite a deeply challenging childhood, Davis pursued her passion for acting with relentless determination, training at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. She rose to prominence through powerful stage performances before transitioning into film and television.
Davis made history by becoming the first Black woman to win the Triple Crown of Acting — an Emmy, a Tony, and an Academy Award. Her Oscar-winning role in Fences and her gripping portrayal of Annalize Keating in How to Get Away with Murder cemented her as a once-in-a-generation talent whose emotional intensity few actors in the world can match.
Viola Davis has never shied away from speaking about racial inequality, colorism, and the lack of opportunities for Black women in Hollywood. Her memoir Finding Me, published in 2022, became a bestseller and offered an unflinching look at her life, trauma, and triumph.
Through her production company JuVee Productions, she actively works to bring diverse, underrepresented stories to screens worldwide. Davis continues to be one of the loudest and most respected voices demanding change in the entertainment industry, both in front of and behind the camera.
