Emmy Rossum is an actress, singer, and director known for tremendous versatility and emotional depth on the screen. Born in New York City on September 12, 1986, she first became known as a classically trained singer and then transitioned into acting. Her breakthrough performance came in 2004’s The Phantom of the Opera, where her gorgeous voice and captivating presence won her great acclaim. However, her role as Fiona Gallagher in Showtime’s worldwide hit Shameless (2011-2019) turned her into a household name, where she gave a raw yet unforgettable performance as an independent eldest sibling navigating a chaotic life.
In addition to her film career, Emmy Rossum has ventured into music and produced two albums, Inside Out (2007) and Sentimental Journey (2017), which feature the more classic style of her ethereal soprano voice.
Emmy has also turned to the other side of the camera by directing episodes of Shameless and other projects. She is proving to be a creative force in the industry and more dedicated to storytelling, whether through acting, music, or directing.
In addition, she has made a name for herself in activism: women's rights, animal rights, and social justice issues are among her causes. She has spoken on these causes while attempting to keep her balance regarding her personal life, which includes motherhood and marriage to director Sam Esmail (Mr Robot creator). Art and social causes remain her focus, and she remains a stimulating lady in Hollywood.
